Plan your removal:

As soon as you know you are moving begin to plan your removal - ideally 3 to 4 weeks before your move date. Do not wait until the last minute to book your removal as you may be disappointed.

Marking and labelling boxes:

It is a good idea to mark each box with a simple labelling system. How you do this is up to you but make it simple. You can make a list of what is in each box or simply label each box from the room it came out of. It is also a good idea to mark where you want to the box to go to when you arrive at the new house. This will save time when the staff are unloading and placing the furniture and boxes into your new home.

Moving home can be made less stressful by being as organized as possible, but with so many other things to think about this can prove difficult. This is the ideal time to clear out clutter and avoid bringing unwanted items to your new home. Charity shops will accept clothes, toys etc, also they will collect larger items of furniture. If you want some items disposed off call We Move It and we can call
and collect it before the day of the move.

Plan your removal

As soon as you know you are moving begin to plan your removal - ideally 3 to 4 weeks before your move date. Do not wait until the last minute to book your removal as you may be disappointed.

Get in touch with We Move It…and we will keep you right for the very start of the process.

We prefer to view all moves before a quotation is offered however this is not always convenient due to long distances of travel. For all local moves one of our staff will call with you to look at your house and view any possible access issues that may arise

We'll remind you of things like your garden shed or any other items you may have forgotten about.

When the required information has been gathered you will be given an estimated price for the removal and a provisional date and time may be booked.

Starting to Packing for a House Removal
As much as of this may seem obvious it is surprising how many people forget them as they have so many other things related to the move on their mind. Look through this check list to assist your move.

Please do not Overfill!

When filling boxes please remember not to overfill them. They have to be lifted and carried to the lorry and we do not want any boxes breaking under the strain or injuring any staff lifting them.

Please do not Underfill!

As stupid as this sounds please do not underfill the boxes as they may collapse if heavy items are placed on top of them. Try to distribute the weight of all boxes evenly.

Call us for packing materials if you need them.

In order to ensure that nothing breaks during the move it is essential that everything is wrapped and protected properly. You will need plenty of bubble wrap, cartons and containers.

Consider any access issues.
Please tell us if you may have any access problems at the new house or your existing house so arrangements can be made in advance e.g. Will the removal lorry fit in the road close enough to the house in order to be able to deliver furniture? You may have even to ask neighbours to move cars or place cones on the road to save the parking space.

Pack Ahead

It is a good idea not to leave it to the last minute before you start to pack. Planning the packing over 2 to 3 weeks in advance will save any unnecessary stress and ensure that everything is packed properly. Keep only essential items aside until the last day or two.

Split Deliveries.
Split deliveries may be required eg often passing furniture onto family and friends. This is quite a common request and makes sense to do it whilst the removal company is planning your move with you. Please tell us in advance if this is the case and we can plan our route and make your quotation as accurate as possible.

Keep Important Documents With You

Remember to keep important documents aside. This will obviously include any documents related to the house sale and your removal.

Placing Items Into Storage.
Preventing the moving chain from breaking may mean moving out of your home if you have a buyer and putting your goods into storage until you are ready to move into your new home. This is a simple and cost effective way of completing the moving chain which could otherwise fall apart and leave you back to the beginning again. We have arranged special rates with a leading local company.

Food

Place the food from the cupboards in strong boxes and ensure it is packed properly and sealed before the move. It is also a good idea to leave the tea a & coffee to the last as the removal men enjoy and appreciate welcome tea break.

More General Tips about Moving
Children.
Having to look after young children during your move is not advisable. It is much easier for you to have a baby sitter or relative organised to look after the children. You will be stressed enough without trying to look after the kids.

Pets

If you have pets you should consider what is to happen to them on the day of removal. It is generally better that they are removed from the premises before the move takes place

Fridge and Freezer

If you are moving a short distance away it is not so important to defrost your fridge or freezer. However where the food may spoil if left unfrozen for a long period it is a good idea to run the contents down over the last couple of weeks before you move.

Appliances

If you require any appliances to be disconnected please have this done for the day of the move. If gas cooker needs disconnected please contact an approved dealer to do this. The removal men can disconnect washing machines or electric cookers if you require to do so.

Lamps

Remove and pack where possible all lamp shades before the move as they can be easily damaged.

Beds

Our removal men can dismantle your beds if required, please ask. Alternatively you can do this yourself on the day of the move. Remember those important allen keys!! We carry our own keys but some are odd sizes so check this out before the day of the move as you may have them packed already.

Flat Pack (Self assembly) Furniture

This type of furniture does not travel well and it is better if you can make arrangements to have this dismantled before your move

Pianos

Please let us know if there is a piano to be moved so specialist equipment can be brought on the day.
What Authorities Should You Inform Before You Move
Telephone, Gas and Electric
Ensure to read all your meters before you leave the house. Contact your telephone provider to get your line disconnected or transfer your services to your new home. Don’t forget to keep a copy of the readings for yourself.

Keep all your essential items with you in a safe place. Especially don’t forget your cheque book or cash to pay the bill when the removal is finished :-)

Medication (Important)
Keep your medical items in a safe place in the unlikely event of any emergency, medication or items such as asthma inhalers.

Solicitors

Confirm with your solicitor when you can collect your keys of your new home this will hopefully avoid waiting time.

Scheduled Deliveries
Don't forget to cancel any delivery services that you may have such as milk, newspapers and any other items that are delivered to your old house.
